Kemi Badenoch praises government's defence spending boost

kemi Badenoch has spoken out in support of the prime minister's decision to increase defence spending. Speaking during a visit to Glasglow on Thursday, the Conservative party leader said she is pleased the prime minister decided to reinstate the plan. "The world is becoming a lot more dangerous and we need to be ready," she said. Ms Badenoch also praised the decision to abolish NHS England.  Report by Kennedyl. 00:00When we were in government, we wanted to increase defence spending, we had a plan for it to get to 2030.

00:06Initially the Prime Minister scrapped that plan. I'm glad to see that he has now reinstated it and tried to accelerate it as well.

00:13The world is becoming a lot more dangerous and we need to be ready.

00:17I think it is good to bring NHS England or certainly the powers back under ministerial control.

00:23I often found that with many arms-length bodies, ministers took the responsibility even when they didn't take the decisions.

00:30I think that this means that Labour cannot hide if things go wrong, but then they can genuinely take the credit if things go well.

00:36But I don't have high hopes because Labour has direct control of health in Wales and that's doing a lot worse than the rest of the country.
