00:00I know some women themselves don't want to give opportunities to other women.

00:07You have your daughters.

00:08You want your daughters to be up there, but you don't just push your daughter.

00:12You need more women so that we have more quality of women in the country who can speak for

00:20the country, who can speak for the women themselves.

00:23Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri has called on women leaders to

00:28support all women pursuing leadership roles, not just their own family members.

00:34In an exclusive interview with FMT, Nancy said some women, especially those in the political

00:39arena, tend to prioritise advancing their own children's careers rather than nurturing

00:45other capable women.

00:46This she said has allowed the leadership gap between men and women to persist.

00:52If you don't push for them, who's going to do it for them?

00:56Most of our leaders are males.

01:02Some of them are lacking in information and knowledge about the women's activities in

01:07the country.

01:08We need more friendly male leaders, friendly in terms of wanting to help the women.

01:18Those friends of mine out there who are women leaders, please help more youngsters.

01:23She said having more women in leadership roles can inspire other women to pursue similar

01:28positions instead of feeling discouraged.

01:32The young people, especially those in universities, they feel that they have an opportunity there.

01:38Because otherwise some of them, they think that there are no new opportunities for them.

01:43I want to see new young leaders, new women in the industry so that they can help to motivate

01:49and inspire other young people.

01:52Meanwhile, Nancy said her ministry is taking steps to encourage more women to join and

01:57stay in the workforce.

01:59We are training more caregivers in our country so that they can leave whoever in their house

02:07who are disabled and need assistance with people with the skills.

02:12Caregivers who are skilful and well-trained, they can help take care.

02:20When you feel more confidence when you leave home, that's how we try to help.
