Hummingbirds returning to North America for summer

The ruby-throated hummingbirds are on their way back to the eastern U.S. after spending the winter in Mexico and South America. Here is when to expect to see them as they fly north through May.

00:00Hummingbirds escape the winter chill by heading to Central America or Mexico, but come February,

00:05these tiny travelers start their epic journey north to the southern and western United States.

00:11Hummingbirds typically start arriving in the southern U.S. through the first two weeks of

00:15March, so people living in the southern portions of Texas to Florida are already seeing the

00:20beautiful birds. They'll continue moving north through those states into Georgia and South

00:25Carolina from the 15th to the 30th of March. During the first two weeks of April, people

00:30living in Kansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Kentucky, and surrounding states will experience the birds

00:36return. They arrive in the middle portion of the country, Nebraska to Pennsylvania, from April 15th

00:41to the 30th, and then they'll move into the northern tier of the United States throughout

00:45the first two weeks of May. If you want in on the hummingbird action, experts say you should

00:50set out a feeder with fresh nectar. You can also use a simple solution of four parts water

00:56to one part sugar.
