00:00The Department of Social Welfare and Development has been spreading rumours

00:04to stop the involvement of fake organizations

00:09that are providing services to the public and the public sector.

00:13But it's a scam.

00:15Noel Talacay has the details.

00:20The rumours of fake organizations that provide help to the community are spreading on social media.

00:27Even the DSWD is not safe here.

00:31The agency admitted that even though they have no connection to the bogus foundations,

00:37non-government organizations or NGOs,

00:40and charitable institutions,

00:42the agency is receiving calls or messages related to this.

00:46A lot of people are messaging us asking if this foundation is real,

00:50if someone is operating here, if they have a license.

00:53Sometimes, I want to donate here.

00:57Is this a real foundation?

00:58Are they sending me letters to donate?

01:02That's why the DSWD responded to the scams of bogus organizations,

01:07foundations, NGOs, and charitable institutions

01:10that provide social welfare and development services

01:15to the Kaagapay Donations Portal.

01:18Avoid scams, that's what we're doing.

01:19We just want a one-stop shop for donations

01:23in the sense that the portal is now trusted by the people.

01:27According to an online article,

01:297 out of 10 Filipinos are targeted by scams last year.

01:35The scams are included in online platforms.

01:39According to another online article,

01:41Combatting Emerging Scam in the Philippines,

01:44In the first 8 months of 2023,

01:478,000 Filipinos were also victims of various types of scams.

01:51Because of this, the DSWD will expose

01:54to their social media accounts

01:56the unaccredited scams.

01:59The listing, I think it has a negative connotation,

02:03but it's not.

02:04It's just a process where we have to clean our data.

02:08They will also inform the scams

02:12if they are removed from the list

02:13to give them time to get accredited

02:16and to get a license to operate

02:19and to solicit donations.

02:21We would want to encourage the public

02:24when you want to donate, disaster or not,

02:28you go to Kaagapay Portal.

02:29You check what are the legit causes

02:32and what are the legit verified addresses

02:36for you to donate.

02:38The Kaagapay Donations Portal

02:40is an initiative of the DSWD

02:43as a follow-up to the Digitalization Program

02:46of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

02:49But even if the permits are obtained online,

02:53the Department of Social Welfare and Development

02:56insisted that the documents they submit are not fake or correct

03:01and that their donations will not be taken for granted.
