National Unity Minister Aaron Agodagang has called on the police and the Malaysian Communications
00:07
and Multimedia Commission to take immediate action against those who spread social media
00:12
content that insults or makes fun of sensitivities related to race, religion, and royalty.
00:18
In a statement, he said everyone must use virtual spaces responsibly to maintain societal
00:23
harmony as actions that insult racial or religious sensitivities can threaten national peace.
00:29
Aaron also said his ministry would continue to run its campaign to educate Malaysians
00:33
on respecting other religions and cultures.
00:37
His statement followed the controversy sparked by three ERA FM radio hosts who were panned
00:41
over a video apparently mocking the Thai Pusim Kavadi ritual.
00:46
Aaron also named several social media users, including independent preacher Zamri Vinod
00:51
who was criticized yesterday by MIC Deputy President M Saravanan for insulting Hinduism.
00:58
Zamri said in a Facebook post that Hindu worshippers performing the Kavadi ritual looked
01:02
like they were possessed and drunk on Tadi.
01:06
Saravanan said Zamri's comments were extremely disrespectful and deeply offensive to the
01:10
Hindu community and urged Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to issue an order for the
01:15
preacher to be charged immediately.
