Coast-to-coast storms to soak California

AccuWeather California Expert Ken Clark breaks down storms that will impact the region this weekend, which could bring beneficial rainfall for some parts of the state.

00:00All you need is one big storm and then all of a sudden you can get a lot of rain but the pattern

00:05right now not really showing a lot of rain across California. Now we have really three storms on the

00:12map today and none of these storms look like they're going to be big rain or snow producers.

00:17There's going to be rain. It's beneficial rain for the most part. It is not going to cause a

00:21lot of problems. We have a lot of problems with the last rain about a week and a half or so ago

00:26with in southern California over the burn areas. I don't see any of these storms having any

00:30important threat for mud-sized debris flows so that's the good news. Yeah the first storm more

00:36of a cooler air and changing the wind flow instead of on offshore more onshore. It is the second

00:44storm Ken that well this may produce nothing more than a shower or two. Now the second storm

00:49at least some rain. Yeah I think we're looking at generally a quarter to three quarters of an

00:55inch of rain across central and northern California. A tenth to half an inch across

01:00southern California over the weekend into Monday. Most of it comes like Saturday night Sunday for

01:07northern California with scattered showers lingering Monday. Southern California mainly Sunday

01:12into part of Monday. So this is not a big deal. Snow in the higher elevations. Snow levels

01:18will be lowering. There will be maybe some past problems especially near Tahoe but there could

01:24be a little snow even then in through the grapevine area before this is all said and done.

01:28Ken let's talk about where we are this season here. I will show you this you know you can see

01:33that short-term drought across southern California. We've had you know the rain central in northern

01:39California has been fine but you know since the wet season started these numbers are pretty low

01:44in southern California. They are very low in fact you go even farther south only 18 percent of

01:50historical average to date in San Diego. They still haven't had very much rain down to San Diego

01:54but better off in Los Angeles they were a month ago but still well below the historical average.

01:59Northern California doing very well. Yeah and it's the same story with the snowpack Ken.

02:04Yep exactly the same. Very good snowpack across the north. Lower than normal across central and

02:09south especially the south. Gonna get some snow this weekend. It won't be a ton but maybe a foot

02:15or so in the higher elevations. Quickly let's take a look at this Ken your reaction to the

02:20reservoir levels. Reservoir levels are doing great. There's no concern at all. The major

02:28reservoirs are as much as 30 percent above historical average. There's a lot of water

02:34in those reservoirs in northern California. That's not going to change. AccuWeather expert
