00:06But how can fake news be addressed and how can it be avoided?

00:11Clayzel Pardilla of PTB Manila is back.

00:16The spread of false news coincides with the rise of technology.

00:22Are you a victim of fake news yourself?

00:26Just like our presidents, it's all fake news.

00:33There's no entrance right now.

00:35They're saying that there's an entrance.

00:55And personally, when I was one of the resource personals here in Tricom,

01:08to avoid this kind of fake news.

01:11According to House Bill No. 2971,

01:14fake news refers to the unintentional spreading of false information

01:21to distort the truth and make it look like it's true.

01:26Under the current law, fake news is included as a content-related offense

01:33and is added to the Cyber Crime Prevention Act.

01:36According to Section C of the law,

01:39anyone can be jailed and fined up to a million pesos.

01:44This is a way to protect the public against false information

01:48that can cause confusion on an important issue.

01:52The Presidential Communications Office promised to fight fake news.

01:58Many people are spreading fake news now.

02:00We will fight it.

02:02We will have public information responsibilities.

02:05If you're a vlogger, we need to be responsible.

02:09We also have a responsibility to tell the truth.

02:13According to content creator and multi-platform journalist Tristan Nodalo,

02:18there are many ways to avoid being a victim or spreading fake news.

02:23I go through different layers.

02:26First, when I read news or information,

02:31the first thing I look at is,

02:32are other networks or major media organizations also reporting the same?

02:39If not, and it's too good to be true,

02:44or if this story is too shocking to ignore,

02:48then what I will do is, I will make my own research,

02:52check with the sources of information,

02:54and by the time I get the information,

02:57that's the only time I will believe that what I read is true.

03:02According to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions,

03:07it's important to look at the date when the information or news was posted

03:13because it might be reposted and not up-to-date.

03:18Experts should not be ashamed to ask

03:21to prove that the information is legit.
