New games area unveiled at Cube Kitchen and Bar in Poulton

00:00So yeah, I'm Antonia, I'm a Sales and Events Manager at Cute Bar Kitchen in Poulton.

00:04So can you tell me a little bit about the games area and where the original idea came from?

00:10Well, the owner Paul actually had the foosball table at home and it just wasn't getting used

00:15as much and we've just noticed that the direction that people are going out has changed quite a lot

00:20so they want a reason to come out and the only other venue in Poulton that has a pool table

00:26is one of the pubs and so we thought if we get that and a darts board then it would give

00:33another reason to come in to our venue as well.

00:35Yeah, so we've talked about you've got the darts board, the pool table and...

00:42Foosball.

00:43Are they free to use I guess?

00:45Yeah, at the minute we've got it all set up, all we ask is for a £10 deposit to get the balls.

00:51We've got the pool cues for that and we can do darts as well but what you find is most darts

00:58players want to bring their own but yeah if you just leave a small deposit you get it back when

01:02you leave as long as everything comes back to us.

01:05So the whole thing is the new games area which is where we are now,

01:10has there been anything else changed apart from the tables and the darts?

01:14Well when the Euros were on we did add a lot more TVs, we've got two in this area and then

01:20in our main bar area we've got more TVs in there so we are considering going down more of a sports

01:26bar route but more Canadian sports bar which would lend itself to the wood and everything

01:31that we've got going on and then obviously our Jack Daniels mural and all that sort of thing.

01:36Can you tell me a little bit more about the mural?

01:39When was it done was it?

01:40A couple of weeks ago so yeah and Jack Daniels just approached us and said you've got a really

01:46cool area upstairs so what we were doing with the sports bar sort of theme and asked if we'd be

01:52interested in getting a local artist to come and do us a mural.

01:56What was the name of the local artist?

01:58I'll have to find that out for you.

01:59That's okay.

01:59He's on Instagram, he's absolutely fabulous.

02:26So how do you think this will, the sports bar will be the only other pool table in the pub,

02:34how much do you think this will make this bar stand out from the rest of the area?

02:39Well we've got a lot of things going on at the moment to try and help improve customer

02:45experience at The Cube in the whole. So not only are we changing this floor, we are changing

02:51the direction we're going on the ground floor as well. So we've recently gone to over 21's

02:56on a Friday and Saturday night hoping to win back some of the old clientele.

03:01We're going to be doing table service up until quite late, we've got the app that's all running

03:07now so you don't have to go to the bar if you don't want. New cocktail menu is just being finalised

03:13and also the food menu so there's lots of exciting changes going on at the minute and to

03:19not take away from that vibe downstairs, we wanted to do something separate on this floor. So that's

03:24going to be a sports bar, we've got games downstairs as well but you can bring them up here as well so

03:29you've got dominoes, chess, the ring toss game, I don't know what that's called, playing cards,

03:35everything like that. And then we've also reintroduced our pub quiz on a Sunday night so

03:42that's a smartphone quiz and we're adding in more games with that, like higher and lower,

03:47open the box used to be a popular one so we're planning on getting a box made and bringing that

03:52back as well so yeah just a lot more fun things to do when you're going out. Yeah and this is

03:57all in time for summer when it's getting warmer and people are moving to the beer garden and stuff

04:01like that. Well that'll be the beer garden, yeah so again you can use the app outside,

04:05you can order food outside, beer garden we are improving every year, obviously we've got it

04:12covered and heated with booze so it can be used all year round but we're adding more furniture in

04:17to the middle bit where you do, it's a little love sun trap there as well. It sounds great.

04:24So it's free to use, £10 deposit, what would be your message to people who are thinking of

04:31thinking this sounds quite good and might give it a try? Well where else can you go out and

04:37use this sort of equipment for free? We're just trying to you know utilise all the space in the

04:44venue so you're coming in, you're buying drinks, you've probably stopped for some food as well

04:49so yeah come by and use everything for free as long as you've not got an event on

04:54because you can hire this, we've got two function rooms so we've got the top floor

04:59which is predominantly a function room with its own room terrace, bar and toilet and then this

05:04floor lends itself more to wakes, christenings, kids parties, weddings so yeah that'd be the

05:13only time that we wouldn't be able to use the area but yeah it's available all the time and

05:19yeah it's getting popular like we are getting people coming in and you know especially in the

05:24half term that's just been, families coming in with the teenage kids they've got nowhere to go

05:30they've got nothing to do so you know parents can sit and have a drink and the kids can

05:34play pool for free so it's a nice cheap deal. So you talked about all the different things

05:40you do it's kind of bringing everything from loads of different areas all together. Yeah well

05:45there's no other venue the size of this one in Pulten that can do what Cube has done yeah for

05:52the last 20 years and it's just constantly thinking of what's changing, what people's

05:57habits are, what they're wanting and you are finding now that it's a higher class service,

06:04a better quality experience you know everyone's disposable income is even more precious at the

06:10minute so just adding the extra little bits that we can to make an enjoyable experience for everyone.
