Grenfell contractor launches legal challenge against borough

A Grenfell tower contractor, which was tasked with the tower’s re-development before the fire has launched a legal challenge against Kensington & Chelsea.

00:07and Chelsea, which is of course the local authority where Grenfell Tower is located,

00:14banned contractors involved in the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower from future council contracts.

00:21One of these contractors, called Sidderise, has announced it is mounting a legal challenge

00:28against the borough in opposition to this ban, having launched judicial review proceedings

00:35last Tuesday. The company in question has said the council's decision was without foundation

00:43or justification because its products do not meet the council's own criteria for the ban.

00:51Sidderise manufactured some of the cavity barriers used in the tower's 2015-2016 refurbishment.

01:00However, they argue because the Grenfell Inquiry report is clear that neither Sidderise nor

01:06its products contribute to the fire, the exclusion is unwarranted. Kensington and Chelsea have

01:13said they stand by their decision in response to this development. The Grenfell Inquiry's

01:20phase two report found no evidence of Sidderise acting dishonestly on its part, but said some

01:28aspects of the company's marketing materials gave cause for concern. It also found Sidderise

01:35had supplied cavity barriers for use in voids larger than those for which they had been

01:43tested.
