According to the data released by the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, or ESCAPE,
00:07
through 2024 ESCAPE Population Data Insights, most countries in Asia-Pacific now
00:15
record the total fertility rate, i.e. Total Fertility Rate, TFR, below 21.
00:24
For your information, in the past 15 years, the highest TFR rate in Malaysia was recorded in 2011 and 2012, i.e. 2.2%.
00:35
Since then, our country has shown a decreasing TFR trend.
00:40
Nevertheless, Malaysia's TFR rate for the first time in that period
00:46
has shown an increase from 0.1% to 1.7% in 2023 compared to 1.6% in the previous year.
00:58
In this regard, there are various factors contributing to the decline in TFR rate.
01:03
These include economic factors and lifestyle factors, which can affect decisions such as age choices for marriage, children and so on.
01:15
At the same time, the problem of infertility can also affect the TFR rate.
01:21
In the future, the government will establish a state sub-fertility center that will be equipped
01:28
with all facilities of fertility care under one roof to provide modern and coordinated fertility services.
01:38
Through holistic approach that includes financial incentives, family welfare base, awareness campaign and psychosocial support,
01:46
KPWKM is working hard to ensure the demographic balance of the country can be maintained.
01:54
This step is important to ensure the social, economic and welfare of the people for the long term.
02:02
That's all. Thank you.
