Raids on 90 illegal e-waste factories yield RM3.8bil materials since Jan 2024

Federal police told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Feb 20) that raids on 90 illegal e-waste factories nationwide had yielded RM3.8bil in materials and assets. Some 538 individuals were detained in the raids between Jan 1 last year and Feb 17 this year. 00:00We have three phases in the e-waste operation that we carry out

00:06The first phase started on January 1, 2024 until February 14, 2025

00:17That's the first phase

00:18which involves a flood of 42 locations with a total of 234 people arrested and a total of 527 million robberies

00:36The second phase, what we call a hop hazard, happened on February 15 last year

00:44which involves a flood of 47 locations with a total of 246 people arrested and a total of 2.86 billion ringgit robberies

00:59And the third phase is the phase after February 15

01:06which involves a flood of 58 locations with a total of 48 people arrested and a total of 400 million robberies

01:24So, throughout this e-waste operation, we have arrested more than 538 people

01:37resulting in a total of 3.8 billion robberies

01:45That's the phase of the e-waste robbery throughout the country

01:55So, overall, for the hop hazard alone, on February 15, 2025, we targeted 47 locations

02:10For the hop hazard, on February 15, we arrested a total of 246 people

02:18resulting in a total of 2.8 billion robberies

02:28What we got now is that the e-waste is brought in, of course, through investment

02:34because the amount is too large

02:38The e-waste is carried through lorries and containers to the premises we mentioned earlier

02:46For the hop hazard alone, there are 46 premises

02:50Before that, for the entire e-waste operation, there are 90 premises altogether

02:56So, an investigation is being carried out by the Ministry of the Environment

03:02to find out how the process of bringing in the e-waste is carried out
