UN Security Council should better respond to global expectations: Chinese FM

Amid major crises and conflicts, the UN Security Council must seize the UN's 80th anniversary as an opportunity to evolve and better meet global expectations, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. 00:04We have seen that in recent years, in the face of some major crises and conflicts,

00:21to re-examine our original intentions, and to respond better to the expectations of the people.

00:38We should put the common interests of the international community first.

00:42We should make objective and fair judgments based on the basic principles of international law and international relations,

00:52Cooperation is an important foundation for the operation of the UN Security Council.

00:56Some members of the UN Security Council have tried to turn the UN Security Council into a place of attack and accusation,

01:01and to turn international weapons into a tool for geopolitics.

01:05This is against the principles of the founders.

01:09Re-establishing the five-year peace agreement is the right time.

01:13We should start with constructive dialogue.

01:16Third, we should keep our promises.

01:18According to the UN Charter, the UN Security Council's decision should be executed in accordance with the law.

01:24All members of the UN Security Council should pay attention to this international obligation.

01:30We should not make selective applications, and we should not make double standards.

01:34Fourth, we should improve the reform.

01:36China supports the UN Security Council's reform,

01:39and we should seek consensus on the reform.

01:43This will make the UN Security Council more representative and more active.

01:47We also support special arrangements,

01:50and we should prioritize the historical injustice against Africa.

01:54China is the founding member of the UN, and the UN Security Council is a long-standing member of the UN.

01:59We will always build a UN Security Council that meets the needs of the 21st century,
