00:00Three DAP leaders have withdrawn themselves from next month's elections for the party's

00:06Central Executive Committee, National Adviser Tan Kok Wai, National Treasurer Phuong Quy

00:12Luan, and party veteran Thi Buon Phuoc.

00:15In a joint statement today, Tan and Phuong said their withdrawal from the race would

00:19make room for a new generation of leaders to play more pivotal leadership roles.

00:25They said DAP has a good leadership succession plan, adding that DAP's core leadership team

00:30gives them the assurance and confidence that the party's future is in capable hands.

00:36In a separate statement, P thanked the DAP branches for his nomination, but said he would

00:41withdraw his candidacy to give room for the next generation of leaders.

00:46Their withdrawal comes amid drama around the intensified campaigning for the DAP elections.

00:52A group of veteran members recently alleged the existence of a deep state in the party

00:57aimed at undermining the influence of National Chairman Lin Kuan Eng and his team.

01:02DAP leader Ronnie Liu also recently lamented the party's move to amend its constitution

01:07so that elected representatives who do not toe the party line on fundamental issues automatically

01:12lose their membership.
