00:00Are you having low back pain which is going down your limbs?

00:08Do you have any tingling sensations or numbness in your feet?

00:12I had a patient who came to my office with a severe low back pain and the pain was retaining

00:17down his limbs.

00:18He also had a complaints of numbness and tingling sensations in the feet.

00:23He was unable to walk properly, unable to sit properly or unable to bend.

00:28I asked the patient to walk on his toes and heel which becomes very difficult for him

00:33and standing from a sitting or a squatting position also is very difficult for such kind

00:38of patient.

00:39After my clinical examination, I diagnosed him that it's a sciatica.

00:45I got some x-rays done.

00:47I got an MRI done for him and it has proved that there was a pinched nerve that was radiating

00:54down the limb.

00:56This sciatica can also occur for one limb or for both the limbs.

01:00It depends upon how the MRI shows and what kind of pinching nerve he has in his spine.

01:06Once the diagnosis has been made as it's sciatica, the initial treatment always begins as a conservative

01:12treatment which goes on for 6 to 8 weeks and in this conservative treatment includes medications,

01:18steroids, physiotherapy, a lumbar belt and bed rest.

01:226 to 8 weeks period is the time period where we observe the patient how the symptoms are.

01:26If they are deteriorating, is it improving or is aggravating.

01:30The sacroiliac belt is advised to the patient for about 3 to 6 weeks which helps to hold

01:36on and control the back movements so that the symptoms don't aggravate and patients

01:42are relieved with these symptoms once the belt has been used properly and for the proper

01:47period of time.

01:48Previous studies have shown that sciatica used to be more common seen in the age group

01:53of 45 and 60 years old but recent studies have shown that it can occur between 25 and

01:5940 years of age group as well.
