01:25Speaking at the conference in Germany, he called for the formation of a European army.

02:19They also say that the turnout was lower than anticipated, and say Thursday's vehicle ramming

02:24attack against a protest in the city may have impacted that.

02:27A separate protest also took place in support of Ukraine.

02:31Participants of that protest urged politicians to continue financially and militarily supporting

02:36Kiev in its fight against Moscow.

02:50On Thursday, a 24-year-old Afghan national was immediately arrested after driving a car

02:55into a crowd of people.

02:57Authorities said at the time that 39 people were injured, two of which were in critical

03:02condition.

03:03Prosecutors say the Afghan man appears to have had an Islamic extremist motive, but

03:07no evidence pointed towards his involvement with any radical networks.

03:12It was the fifth in a string of attacks involving immigrants over the past nine months in

03:16Germany.

03:17It also came just over a week before the country holds its federal elections, with immigration

03:22being one of the forefront issues.

03:25Immigration debates have paved the way for Germany's far right to make significant gains

03:28politically.

03:29The Alternative for Germany party, which promises to crack down on immigration, is currently

03:34projected to win around 20 percent of next week's vote.

03:42A 23-year-old man stabbed six people in the southern Austrian city of Village, killing

03:46a 14-year-old boy.

03:49Five other men were injured in the attacks, with at least two of them sustaining critical

03:53injuries.

03:56Police say the attacker, who is a Syrian national with legal residence in Austria, started to

04:01attack passers-by on the street.

04:04Authorities are still investigating the motives behind the attack.

04:08It's not yet clear whether the attacker acted alone.

04:12Austria's far-right leader, Herbert Kickl, expressed anger at the attack and highlighted

04:16the need to reform the immigration system.

04:20Kickl has often expressed desire to crack down on immigration and asylum applications.

04:27Austria's foreign ministry says that almost 25,000 asylum applications were received in

04:312024.

04:33Austrian nationals constituted the largest group, followed by Afghans.
