We need to understand the science behind our reverse swing and why it is different from
00:07
conventional swing as well.
00:09
So when you know how it works and what is the technique behind it and what is the science
00:16
behind it, I am sure it will become beneficial for many young fast bowlers to master this
00:22
art and become lethal and become effective on any surface in any part of the world.
00:30
And I am sure through this video you will understand how the reverse swing will work
00:36
and how it is different from conventional swing as well.
00:40
If you are a fast bowler and if you have the ability to move the ball away from the batsman
00:47
and into the batsman, it is a great advantage.
00:51
And on top of that, if you can do the reverse swing, that will make batsman's life miserable.
00:58
We have seen this art over so many years and recently people started talking about it again
01:05
due to the last Test match against England and India.
01:09
James Anderson, probably the best reverse swing bowler that we have in this generation
01:17
and people started talking about how this works and what is the difference between conventional
01:24
swing and reverse swing and who are the best bowlers when it comes to reverse swing and
01:31
also how it works and what is the science behind it.
01:35
So let's talk about reverse swing today and let's see how it is working and what is the
01:42
science behind reverse swing.
01:45
Reverse swing works right opposite to the outswing and in-swing.
01:50
If you see this particular ball which has one side shiny and the other side is rough
01:56
and dry and also some damp areas as well.
02:01
So if I deliver this ball in the air, conventional swing will take the ball in-swing to the right
02:08
hand batsman.
02:10
But when the ball is dry and you have much more touches on the ball, this will work as
02:17
a reverse swing as well.
02:18
How it works is the most important thing and you should know what is the science behind
02:22
reverse swing.
02:24
So when this ball travels in the air and with proper seam presentation for an in-swing ball
02:31
and the air flow comes and wraps around the ball and on the shiny side it flows smoothly
02:39
and leaves behind the ball.
02:43
And also at the same time the air flow comes here because of the seam presentation, it
02:49
trips on the seam and comes into the rough area and has some turbulence created around
02:58
this area and the air leaves the ball much more earlier than the shiny side.
03:07
Because of that it creates a wake behind the ball towards the shiny side.
03:13
So it travels in the air as an in-swing ball a bit later and it moves towards the outside
03:24
of the batsman because of the wake created by the ball and because of the air flow around
03:29
the shiny side separates the ball much more later than the rough side.
03:35
So it creates a reverse swing because of this science.
03:40
And also the same way if you have the out-swing grip and if you send the ball in the air and
03:48
the ball will travel in the air as an out-swing ball because of the air separation behind
03:56
the ball makes a difference to create a wake towards the opposite side and it goes as an
04:02
in-swing delivery.
04:04
So that's what the science behind the out-swing and in-swing bowling and also the reverse
04:13
swing bowling.
04:14
So it's all about science and we have realized this probably very late but this has been
04:20
happening throughout the years and people have mastered this art and they have reaped
04:26
benefits because of this ability.
04:28
I'm sure some of the great fast bowlers without knowing they would have done reverse swing
04:34
long back but now people have mastered this, people have understood the science behind
04:41
it and now they are working on that to get the best benefit out of reverse swing.
04:47
Normally ball will reverse after about you can say 25 to 30 overs and probably on a rough
04:55
surface it will become much more early and also you need to understand the cricket ball
05:03
should travel at a speed around maybe 120 kilometers per hour to get that effect on
05:12
the cricket ball to reverse and go towards the opposite direction.
05:17
So I'm sure you have understood the reason behind the reverse swing and this will affect
05:25
definitely many young bowlers to master this and become more lethal when it comes to their
05:32
fast bowling.
