00:00JP, same mistakes repeated by Mumbai, as they did against Delhi?

00:06Well, it's tough to say that it's the same exact mistakes.

00:09And I think the reason why I say that is, if you think back to the previous game against Delhi,

00:15where they probably had a pretty decent power play, but then lost their way through the middle.

00:22Where this time around, they struggled even in the power play, and couldn't quite find their way in the middle overs.

00:28Even though they didn't lose many wickets, the struggle was, you've got to give credit where credit is due.

00:34And the Punjab Kings actually restricted them pretty well. They were tight in their lines and lengths.

00:40They bowled really well on a tough wicket.

00:43And it was interesting listening to Rohit speak in the post-match presentation.

00:49He was talking about that it wasn't as difficult of a wicket that we thought it would be from a batting perspective.

00:58That was an interesting comment.

01:00And it's interesting also, on top of that, is KL Rao winning the toss and actually electing to bowl first.

01:08Which was a big surprise on a wicket that you know is going to deteriorate and become difficult to bat.

01:16But again, they did exceptionally well with the ball, which gave them the best chance to really get those runs.

01:23130 was always going to be a tough one to defend.

01:26I think if you're getting anywhere between 155 and 160 on a wicket like that, you become quite a formidable team to defend.

01:35So, yeah, it's been a tough road, or a tough couple of games for Mumbai.

01:40But again, I say this with confidence, knowing the depth and the quality of that side, they're definitely going to be back.

01:47But I want to say this, Anish.

01:48I want to say this.

01:50Sahil, are you a Mumbai fan?

01:53No, I actually don't support Mumbai.

01:55I don't.

01:57Who supports Mumbai on the call?

02:07And I'm hoping you're still going to be supporting Mumbai throughout, no matter what the result.

02:15I've been following Mumbai since the first IPL.

02:17And I remember I was so small that time when IPL started.

02:19And to see them get so many wins throughout the year.

02:23And they always have some really, as you call it, nail-biting matches to watch them play.

02:29And it's always exciting.

02:31And IPL is something that me and my dad do.

02:33It's like a dad and daughter thing.

02:35Every evening at 6 o'clock, we tune in.

02:37And there's those 2-3 hours where we sit and catch up.

02:39And even if we lose the match, it's okay.

02:41Because we realise it's a game at the end of the day.

02:43And it's entertainment and it's fun.

02:45Okay, awesome, man.

02:47But Anees, I'm wondering why Sahil is so sad, then?

02:49If he's not a Mumbai fan?

02:51I have no idea.

02:53Sahil, probably you can answer this question.

02:57Because I had predicted Mumbai would win today.

02:59So, I'm very upset that my prediction was wrong.

03:01So, I was disappointed by today's victory.

03:05Yeah, I would like to ask your compatriot, Quinton de Kock.

03:07What's been going wrong for him since he's been playing this year's IPL?

03:11He's not had a great tournament.

03:13So, what's been going wrong for him?

03:15What do you think about it?

03:17It's been a tough year, to be honest.

03:19When I say tough year, I mean the South African season.

03:23I mean, he's had a tough time going.

03:25You know, he's obviously been in the leadership for a while.

03:29I'm talking about South Africa now.

03:31He's captain for a while, which didn't quite go according to plan.

03:35Which one could argue that that has had an effect on his actual performance.

03:41But I think now that he's relinquished the captaincy and so forth,

03:45I think his main focus now is obviously skill, which is batting.

03:49I mean, we know that he's one of the best keepers in the world.

03:51But he's obviously wanting to perform with a bat.

03:55So, again, I'm very confident that he's going to bounce back.

03:59And I think the important thing to note is,

04:01Mumbai have played, am I right in saying,

04:05have played all their games in Chennai now?

04:07Yep.

04:09Yeah.

04:11Which is a difficult surface, right?

04:13So, for a westernized cricketer,

04:15sometimes it can be tough to adapt to surfaces like that.

04:19If you think about where South Africa have played in the last year,

04:23even through the pandemic, it's been generally South Africa.

04:27So, you don't get a lot of opportunity to really hone your skill on that kind of surface.

04:33And, you know, when you think of Mumbai,

04:37when you think of the surface in Mumbai, the Wankhede,

04:39it's a really good batting track generally.

04:41So, you know, they shape their team and pick their players according to their home conditions a lot of the time.

04:49And unfortunately, Quinton just hasn't found his way on that surface.

04:53But I think with the move, leaving Chennai,

04:57I think he's going to find the surfaces a lot more easier to play on,

05:01which I'm sure you'll see some good scores from him.

05:03What did we do wrong in the last three games?

05:07This game, it was okay, completely.

05:09We have done well.

05:11And the last three games, where we lagged?

05:15So, you know, it's interesting listening to Kale speak at the post-match.

05:19He spoke about how, from a squad perspective, you know, they're a new squad.

05:26They're still building.

05:28And if you look at a team like Mumbai,

05:31they very much mature in who they pick and who have been playing for them over the last few years.

05:39There's a consistency in their selection.

05:42So, I think Punjab now have realized that there needs to be some consistency in terms of their core group.

05:49And that is going to create some consistency in their performances as well.

05:54And I think they've relied on Kale Raul to really lead their squad now.

05:59They've got a good management structure.

06:01So, those kind of things need to be implemented and being consistent to create a team to really perform well.

06:09And we've seen now the great reference for the IPL and the most accomplished environment and team within the IPL has been the Mumbai Indians.

06:18And that is the specific reasons why.

06:21So, a lot of teams now are going to be looking to be consistent in their team selections and squad selections.

06:28And I think that's going to bode well for them.

06:30And Kings is no different.

06:32They need to build a core group and who they're going to solidify their team around.

06:38And then sort of fill gaps where they think they need certain type of players.

06:42And also against the conditions they're going to be facing.

06:45Which we'll see a lot more consistent performances from them.

06:49Would you say that Gale should be dropped and Milan should be in?

06:53Because I don't think that Gale should be dropped.

06:56What are your thoughts?

06:57Did you ask if Gale should be dropped or KL?

07:00Yes, mainly Gale.

07:03No, I don't necessarily think so.

07:07You know, he's a seasoned campaigner when it comes to the T20 format.

07:12So, I think what could be considered is and maybe the conditions that they're currently playing on could be an argument to play Milan.

07:25Is where it's not just free-flowing.

07:27You know, in terms of it coming on nicely to the back that probably somebody like Chris Gale would enjoy.

07:33And this is an opportunity maybe to play David Milan.

07:37He's obviously, I think he's still ranked number one T20 international batter in the world.

07:43So, he's obviously got a formidable record.

07:45But again, with saying that, Chris Gale puts in a performance today to get Punjab over the line.

07:54I mean, there were some iffy moments there when particularly the off-spinner was bowling towards him.

08:01Jayant Yadav.

08:03Because that's always the susceptible sort of delivery that whenever Chris Gale is batting, there's always an off-spinner bowling.

08:11I've certainly bowled against him from time to time as well.

08:14So, that's the argument you could have.

08:18So, in terms of games to come for Punjab, I think that could be a consideration.

08:25Actually, I wanted to ask JP.

08:27I mean, Mumbai has been such a great team.

08:29But what do you think they could change up a bit?

08:31Because the last few games have not been as successful for them.

08:34And do you think that probably the change in the batting lineup today like with Isham coming before than usually when he comes mid-order.

08:41Did that kind of have an effect on the way that they were going to score runs?

08:45Is that a strategy that they could use or something that they could change to make sure that they win the games coming ahead?

08:51So, yeah.

08:53Just to comment firstly on that Ishan Kishan and Surya Kumar Yadav change.

08:57So, listening again to Rohit Sharma speak in the post-match.

09:02He was speaking about it being a strategic move where they wanted somebody.

09:07Particularly, remember you got to think about the surfaces that they're playing on.

09:12It's very spin-friendly.

09:13They wanted somebody in the middle to be able to play spin really well.

09:17So, obviously, they see Surya Kumar Yadav as one of the best players of spin in their side.

09:24Along with somebody like Rohit Sharma who did reasonably well today.

09:28So, that's probably, as you said, that's the reasoning for the change.

09:33Where Ishan Kishan, in many ways, probably prefers the ball coming on and also can be dominant in that power play.

09:42But unfortunately, it didn't quite work out according to plan.

09:45And as he mentioned as well, sometimes when you make a strategic move, you can't only suggest it is the right move according to the result of it.

09:55I mentioned a couple of days ago and Anish will remember.

09:59You got to question whether there was good thinking behind the idea.

10:03And then your reflection is thinking and then execution.

10:07So, those are the conversations that they will obviously have after the game.

10:11In terms of changes, I'm very wary of making knee-jerk changes in terms of just results.

10:18So, remember, it's back-to-back losses. Fair enough.

10:20Now, you've picked particularly these group of players that have been successful over a period of time.

10:28And you've got to allow them the grace and opportunity to find form again for a period of four to five games, I would suggest.

10:39So, I think it's a little bit early to make drastic changes.

10:43I think one or two years according to the conditions might be warranted.

10:46And that's something that they will look at now, possibly leaving Chennai.

10:50Does they need a change according to the conditions?

10:54But I'd be very wary and I don't think they are a team that could make any drastic changes.

10:59So, I don't think it's needed right now.
