00:00January 4th is the 15th Ascension Day of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

00:09On this day in 2006, Sheikh Mohammed became the ruler of Dubai and was elected Vice President

00:15and Prime Minister of the UAE the next day by the Supreme Council members.

00:20That was a pivotal moment in the history of Dubai and the UAE.

00:24The Emirate and the country soon witnessed rapid progress.

00:28Sheikh Mohammed directed a host of initiatives and ventures that reflected his ambitions,

00:33foresight and philanthropy.

00:35Infrastructure grew at such a brisk pace that Dubai was soon ranked one of the most

00:40advanced cities, hosting some of the world's iconic structures.

00:44At 828 meters, the Burj Khalifa rose to become the tallest building in the world and Dubai

00:50Mall emerged as the biggest shopping center.

00:52While the Dubai Metro was a runaway success and Al Maktoum Airport became the second international

00:58airport in the Emirate, philanthropy was also close to Sheikh Mohammed's heart.

01:02That's reflected in campaigns like the Dubai Karas to educate poor children, Noor Dubai

01:07to fight blindness, UAE WaterAid to millions worldwide, the Dress 1 Million Needy Children

01:13campaign and many more.

01:14Sheikh Mohammed also encouraged Emiratis to dream big.

01:18That turned Hazal Mansouri into the first UAE astronaut and a UAE space probe, Hope,

01:23is on its way to a February rendezvous with Mars.

01:26With a visionary like Sheikh Mohammed at the helm, no frontier is too far.
