February snow reminds Chicago residents of winter

AccuWeather's Leslie Hudson talks on how the recent snowfall and cold temperatures in Chicago is reminding residents that it is still winter.

00:00It was hailed as the Super Bowl of snow events for Chicago, at least for the last year or so.

00:06But as it turns out, it was just enough snow to remind Chicagoans it's still February.

00:11Yesterday, I felt like Tim Burton's Batman to where I could only do this because of how many layers were on my neck.

00:20Despite the less than stellar snow event, this week's snowfall is the most significant snow event of the season.

00:27And it's long overdue. So far, Chicago has been in a snow drought.

00:32It was the least snowy start to the season in nearly nine decades,

00:36when Chicago got a meager 4.6 inches of snow in mid-February of 1936.

00:43We'd rather have the snow because at least the temperatures are going to be warmer.

00:47If it drops in those single digits, what are going to happen next week, we don't really care for that.

00:54The city used more than 1,800 snow plows over the last 24 hours or so

00:58to make sure all the roads would be cleared for the busy commuters on Thursday.

01:03In Millennium Park, sidewalks were heavily salted and paths were cleared within hours of the last snowflakes

01:09to get ready for the busy Valentine's weekend.

01:12Valentine's Day is literally tomorrow.

01:14This is the kind of weather you want to just curl up with your honey and just really, really enjoy it.

01:21Now, Chicago will get a break from the snow for about 24 hours on Friday evening.

01:26They're expecting another band of moderate snow and then bitterly cold temperatures move in here.

01:31Temperatures over the weekend are only expected to be in the single digits for highs,

01:35and the morning lows will be sub-zero.

01:38That will last well into President's Day next week.
