2000 I turned vegetarian. That's how I thought there's no good vegetarian restaurant in Dubai.
00:12
I came to Dubai in 1982. I was 18 years old when I came. Started work in a textile market
00:18
in a textile company. I worked there six years and started my own textile business in 1988.
00:23
My major line is textile. We import the fabric for kunduras and that's like 33 years old. I was
00:31
very passionate about getting success and making money. That was the beginning. 2000 I turned
00:36
vegetarian. That's how I thought there's no good vegetarian restaurant in Dubai. In those days
00:46
there were of course one or two but nobody was like 100% pure vegetarian. So we opened the first
00:53
branch in Karama in 2001 and recently my son has joined me and we've opened two more branches.
01:02
Right before COVID I joined the family business. Govinda's as well as our textile company
01:10
but mainly focused on the restaurant industry. Two three things if I you know kind of what's
01:16
helped me be in the restaurant industry from my father is that I've seen him work really hard
01:22
since a very young age. He's 18. He started working when he was 18. He didn't even go to
01:28
college and then throughout the years how he's managed like the textile business and then started
01:34
a restaurant you know without having any experience or knowledge and then also focusing a lot on like
01:43
people and I think that's very important in the restaurant industry like your interaction with
01:49
people not like of course with your customers but also a lot with your internal staff. They're your
01:58
customers as well right and making sure that they're always taken care of. That's what I've
02:02
learned from him and then I think also that's one aspect but also giving back to the society in
02:09
general. We do a lot of social initiatives through the textile company but then also we
02:16
outside every restaurant he started this putting a fridge outside every restaurant where you know
02:23
we put some just simple food like dal, chawal, maybe a vegetable as well and anybody can come
02:29
and take it at any time during the whole day. As they say there's no substitute to hard work.
02:35
I was very hard working but at the end of the day what matters more is hard work many people do.
02:42
It is the you know blessings of your elders, parents which count and also the blessing of the
02:49
lord which helps us to achieve this position. UAE or Dubai provides that perfect environment
02:57
for people to you know the government enables us with the best of the facilities and
03:04
infrastructure and the best of the rules and security and we have to then go ahead and
03:13
you know do our own business and accomplish it. Going forward you know we want to focus on
03:19
smaller outlets, a thousand square feet, 800 square feet where the focus is on quicker eating
03:27
like so you have your pav bhaji, chole bhature but still keeping that ethos and values of
03:33
keeping it healthy vegetarian.
