00:09Mudslides and torrential flooding killed more than 300 people in and around Sierra Leone's

00:15capital early on Monday following heavy rains, with many victims trapped in homes buried

00:21under tons of mud.

00:23Survivors and volunteers dug through the mud and debris at times with their bare hands

00:28in a desperate search for missing relatives. Military personnel were deployed to help

00:32with the rescue operation in the West African nation. Initial Red Cross estimates said as

00:38many as 3,000 people were left homeless by the disaster and that figure was expected

00:43to rise.

00:44Hundreds of Indian expatriates gathered at their country's missions to celebrate the

00:4971st Indian Independence Day. The Indian flag was hoisted at the embassy in Abu Dhabi and

00:55the consulate in Dubai. People wearing colours in the tricolour sang the national anthem

01:00while diplomats read out excerpts from the Indian president's address to the nation on

01:04the eve of Independence Day.

01:07Four years after Taylor Swift tried to handle her groping allegation against a radio station

01:12DJ quietly, the pop superstar got a very public victory with the jury's verdict that she hoped

01:19would inspire other women.

01:22Jurors in US District Court in Denver deliberated fewer than four hours to find that ex-radio

01:27host David Mueller assaulted and battered Swift during a pre-concert meet-and-greet

01:33in June 2013.

01:36As per Swift's request, jurors awarded her $1 in damages, a sum her attorney, Douglas

01:42Baldridge, called a single symbolic dollar, the value of which is immeasurable to all

01:47women in this situation.

01:49And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 45 degrees Celsius, dropping

01:55to 34 degrees at night.
