Are apprenticeships better than degrees?

00:06I can see why it's so beneficial to do these apprenticeships as opposed to going to university

00:13because a lot of the skill sets that people are learning at university are not necessarily

00:18as in demand as they once were.

00:20So it's that kind of supply and demand differences in our local economy.

00:25As a parent with a child who's in university, I believe apprenticeships is the way to go.

00:31Even with the university degree, I think you should do an apprenticeship.

00:34The majority of people, and I'm talking with a 22-year-old boy who's going through university

00:38right now, his thing is once he's finished university, then he's going to have to find

00:43a job.

00:44But most jobs want work experience or some experience in that field.

00:47Unless you do a degree that's sandwiched where you get the experience and then you get those

00:51doors open, you're basically being fed, you're coming out with a lot of debt with no means

00:56to pay it and you're starting at an entry-level job.
