00:00It's no secret they love the UAE and the past 12 months have been no exception when

00:10it comes to celebrity invasions.

00:12From fashion and film to music or just a simple stopover, we bring you a roundup of the A-list

00:17visits of 2012.

00:20From the Khans to the Kumars, Dubai was a popular haunt for Bollywood stars in 2012.

00:26Even the ever-elusive Sanjay Dutt put in a public appearance for his action film, Agneepath.

00:31Superstar Salman Khan could easily win the Most Frequent Flyer to Dubai title thanks

00:35to his numerous jaunts to the UAE.

00:37We were witness to his notorious mood swings, which we put down to, well, jet lag.

00:42But the crown for most number of visits has to go to Priyanka Chopra, who clocked five

00:46this year.

00:47From dance shows to jewellery launches to film premieres, PC did it all in the UAE.

00:52We also got to see new mum Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at this year's Dubai World Cup.

00:57As the brand ambassador for long jeans, she presented a watch to one of the fashionably

01:01dressed women at the world's richest horse race.

01:04As always, she used her favourite phrase, wonderful to be in Dubai.

01:08In a separate event, Rai Bachchan's hubby Abhishek made a more dramatic entry as he

01:12spun around top speed in a Mini Cooper at Dubai's Global Village.

01:16No, he didn't get a speeding ticket because Abhishek was in town to promote his movie,

01:21with players along with Bipasha Basu, Sonam Kapoor, Neel Nitin Mukesh and Bobby Deol.

01:27But this has to be the highlight of the year for us.

01:29Saif Ali Khan, who's actually a real prince, took us on a wild ride around town in a flaming

01:34red Ferrari.

01:35Khan, who was in town to promote his spy flick Agent Vinod, was armed with a licence to thrill.

01:40Khan's wife Kareena Kapoor also made a memorable entry.

01:44During her visit to promote her film Heroine, Kapoor, who was still single then, hopped

01:48off a seaplane and addressed the press on a yacht.

01:51And no, we weren't seasick and no, she wasn't a diva.

01:552012 also saw haughty John Abraham prove he isn't just a pretty face.

01:59His words, not ours.

02:01Abraham turned producer with his indie flick Wikidona, one of the sleeper hits of this

02:05year.

02:07Speaking of pretty faces, newbies Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, who made

02:12their debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year, had no such problems.

02:16Happy to be commodified, their mentor Johar acted like a proud dad as he flaunted his

02:20prized discoveries.

02:22Guess who came to the Gulf News office this year?

02:25The cast of Rowdy Rathod, that's who.

02:27Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhu Deva put on their thinking caps and did a spectacular

02:32job at playing editors for the day for Tabloid.

02:35Bollywood heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor asked his fans to live life king size, while his father

02:40Rishi chose to ring in his 60th birthday at Dubai's swanky Japanese restaurant Zuma.

02:45Finally, we rounded off the year with who else?

02:47Salman Khan.

02:48The actor was switched on as he made his stage comeback after more than a decade in the Alan

02:52Bollywood concert.

02:54In all, there was a lot of waiting involved, but when the stars deigned to appear hours

02:57later than their scheduled time, all was forgotten as they won us over with their star power

03:02and wit.

03:03From Hollywood, the Dubai roll call was robust.

03:06Actors Richard Gere, Frida Pinto, Cate Blanchett, Colin Firth, Kristen Davis, Gerard Butler,

03:11Gwyneth Paltrow, Demi Moore and Rooney Mara were some of the stars who made their presence

03:16felt in the UAE this year.

03:18While the Shake It Up stars Zendaya Coleman and Bella Thorne stirred some fun in Dubai

03:22as they took their turn behind the millions of milkshakes counter, Demi Moore chose to

03:26kick off her 50th birthday celebrations in Abu Dhabi.

03:29Movie buffs also got a whiff of Gwyneth Paltrow in her role as brand ambassador for Hugo Boss

03:34perfume at Dubai Mall, while Richard Gere revealed his addiction to green tea during

03:38the Abu Dhabi Film Festival.

03:40On the fashion front, Heidi Klum chose Dubai to film her catwalk show, Germany's Next

03:44Top Model, and roped in Dubai-based designer Fern One to create 46 dresses.

03:49Italy's flamboyant designer Roboto Cavalli unveiled his perfume in Dubai early this year

03:54and threw a legendary bash to celebrate this milestone, while Victoria's Secret model

03:58Karolina Kurkova added an extra dose of glamour to a launch party for Arab-language websites

04:04devoted to luxury.

04:05Over to Kelly for the Music Roundup.

04:09From Stereophonics to Sophie Ellis Baxter, The Eagles, Elton, Enrique and Evanescence,

04:14Madonna to Matt Kearney, Chris Brown and Cee Lo to Craig David, Missy Elliott to Macy Gray,

04:20The Proclaimers to Katy Perry and of course industry giants Kylie, Usher, 50 Cent, Nelly,

04:25Snoop and more, 2012 has been one heck of a year when it comes to a live tune or two.

04:30The musical Minogue Sisters made both the ents and fashion headlines, Kylie taking to

04:35the stage at Yass Arena for her fantastic flashback of all her favourites, but in a

04:40slightly questionable blue jumpsuit which didn't leave much to the imagination, while

04:44her sis Dani launched her Project D collection over the same weekend.

04:49The F1 was packed with Cee Lo Green, Travi McCoy, Mel C, Nickelback, Eminem, Akon, Missy

04:55Elliott and more.

04:56The legendary Boy George even managed a club appearance and DJ set.

05:00Atelier Live had a good year with the launch of a festival series hosting 50 Cent, Nelly,

05:05Ciara, Craig David, Eric Murillo, Chris Brown, singer turned circus performer who cleverly

05:11juggled two girlfriends during his trip, Leona Lewis, Teo Cruz, Natasha Beddingfield, Skylar

05:17Gray and Jay Sean.

05:19Snoop is next up on December 31st which rounds off a very good year for them.

05:24Sandance was hot on the heels with a packed Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, Newton Faulkner,

05:28Matt Kearney, Fatboy Slim, Labyrinth, M People, Calvin Harris, Kaiser Chiefs, Rizzle Kicks

05:34and a whole lot of beachfront memory making.

05:36Madonna was probably the highlight of the year, the first 22,000 tickets selling out

05:41in just 30 minutes.

05:42Turns out it wasn't worth it for some.

05:44Both shows opened late to no apology and the material girl baffled some with somewhat strange

05:50performances of gun crime and well, let's call it a rather sexually explicit show.

05:56Enrique was less than chatty in an interview, as was Cee Lo.

05:59The fray had a fab time in the Vegas of the Middle East, what happens in Vegas stays in

06:04Vegas they said.

06:05We met Will.i.am's bestie at the app and had giggles backstage with the four singing tenors

06:11Il Divo and tears with King of Pop, MJ's brothers Tito and Marlon for their Jackson Unity Tour.

06:172012 will be hard to top but something tells us if anyone can do it, the UAE can.

06:23Bring on 2013.
