We are leaving the day after, meaning the day after the election, yesterday election
00:08
where ended up with a tie between the first two contenders or the first day going to the
00:15
runoff and the month of April, the 13th of April, where the president candidate Daniel
00:23
Loboa and the challenger, the Correista Luisa González are going to face again, face to
00:31
face to dispute the presidency of Ecuador.
00:34
They had already participated in the election on October 2023, would give the presidency
00:44
to the current president Daniel Loboa for 51, almost 52% against 48% of Luisa González.
00:55
Today Luisa is insisting that she is victorious, that she is completely convinced that they
01:03
are going, they meaning the Correismo are going to recover the presidency after 10 years
01:11
from 2007 to 2017, where president Correa was leading the destinies of the country and
01:20
where mostly all the indices were improving.
01:25
We're talking health, we're talking employment, we're talking security, education, housing
01:32
and they're trying to reproduce again the same idea of caring about the people more
01:40
than caring about the capital, that is exactly what they try to denounce that is taking place
01:45
in this government.
01:48
Most definitely, according to what we have been talking to analysts, says that it's going
01:53
to be an uphill battle for Daniel Loboa because there are several issues in terms of country
02:00
situation that are going to be blamed on him, for example there is a crisis of energy, there
02:07
is not enough energy, there have been blackouts for weeks before the election and that could
02:15
be again the case given the fact of the droughts that they're anticipating that could happen
02:22
before the day of the runoff.
02:25
In the case of Luisa González, the challenge is that she is going to fight not only a candidate,
02:33
it's going to be a candidate that is at the same time the president and it's been denounced
02:38
that he's using the resources of the state, the resources of the government in order to
02:44
benefit for his presidency.
02:47
Definitely, it's going to be more and more important the alliances that each of those
02:54
two families are going to try to get and it's looking like Luisa González could make an
03:02
alliance with the one who finished in third place in the election of yesterday, we're
03:06
talking about Leonidas Issa, the candidate of the indigenous movement Pachacuti, that
03:14
he obtained 5.6% of the vote in the election, so if you start to add up, they could make
03:21
up the 50% plus one vote that they need.
03:25
So the situation is fluid, but those two campaigns are already working on their strategy to try
03:31
to get the presidency in April 2013, in two months from today.
03:38
We'll get back to you now.
03:41
Thank you, Justo.
