00:06vote count continues, presidential candidates Luisa Gonzalez and Daniel Novoa will face

00:12each other in a runoff election on April 13th.

00:15With over 92% of the votes counted, both candidates will fight for the presidency of the country

00:20in April, with current president Daniel Novoa garnering 44.31% of the votes, followed closely

00:26by Luisa Gonzalez with 43.83% of the votes.

00:30In order to be elected to the Ecuadorian presidency in a single round, a candidate must obtain

00:3550% of the votes plus one, or total 40% with a difference of 10 points over the second

00:40place.

00:41Meanwhile, the president of the National Electoral Council, Diana Atamain, stated at the closing

00:45of the polls that the day passed normally and with a projected turnout of more than

00:5183%.
