Severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall to
00:04
impact parts of Victoria and much of New South Wales today and again on Monday.
00:10
We can see that there with today's storm map. You can see widespread storms
00:14
across much of northern and eastern New South Wales and even into much of
00:18
central and eastern parts of Victoria as well. But our particular concern are
00:22
those that live in this red highlighted area where we're likely to see severe
00:26
thunderstorms from around the Dubbo area all the way through Wagga Wagga,
00:29
Albury-Wodonga and even into the very far north of Melbourne as well. In these
00:34
red areas we could see severe thunderstorms with large hail, damaging
00:38
winds and heavy rainfall today and that could lead to flash flooding of
00:41
businesses, roads and property. We could also see dangerous driving conditions
00:46
with these storms as well as any we could see damage to homes, properties and
00:50
businesses, trees down and power lines down particularly with those damaging
00:54
winds. So very a stormy day on the way this afternoon and we could see even
00:58
bigger storm day on the way on Monday through much of inland New South Wales
01:02
and northeastern Victoria with another round of large hail, damaging winds and
01:07
heavy rainfall that can cause a number of these issues. So let's look at that in
01:11
more detail. Firstly this afternoon widespread
01:14
shower and thunderstorm activity across much of northern and eastern New South
01:18
Wales and much of eastern and northeastern Victoria as well. Could even
01:23
see a few showers and storms to the north of Melbourne. Then as we move into
01:26
tonight into the early hours of Monday we're likely to see that storm risk
01:30
continue through parts of New South Wales and eastern Victoria. We could see
01:34
some heavy falls possibly developing through eastern parts of Victoria and
01:37
southeast parts of New South Wales and that too could lead to some flash and
01:42
possible minor riverine flooding. So watch out for that in far eastern
01:45
Victoria and southeastern New South Wales. Then as we move through the day on
01:50
Monday you can see widespread rain and thunderstorms across much of New South
01:54
Wales and again through eastern Victoria with another round of severe
01:59
thunderstorms with large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall and we could
02:03
see that rain really increase through eastern and central parts of New South
02:06
Wales on Monday afternoon into Tuesday morning with possible heavy falls from
02:10
around Newcastle all the way down through Wollongong and possibly the
02:13
south coast. While showers and storms will continue further inland and then
02:17
move up into southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales on Tuesday.
02:21
But how much rainfall is going to fall? Well as you can see here we could see
02:25
widespread falls of 25 to 50 millimetres through eastern Victoria and much of
02:30
central and eastern New South Wales and we could see even heavier falls in
02:34
excess of 100 millimetres possible through parts of eastern Victoria and
02:37
particularly around central and southeastern parts of New South Wales
02:41
particularly where those storms tend to heavy rainfall and that could lead to
02:45
flash and possible minor riverine flooding but you can see a wet and
02:48
stormy few days on the way. So with all this severe thunderstorm activity in
02:52
Victoria and New South Wales today and on Monday make sure you stay up to date
02:57
with the latest forecasts and warnings by our website and app and listen to all
03:01
advice from emergency services.
