Discussing the Caleb Martin trade/how AD will fit with the Mavericks

We're only two days away from the NBA Trade Deadline, but the Mavs have already been plenty active. K&C take a segment to talk about the breaking news that Quentin Grimes has been traded to the 76ers for Caleb Martin, as well as how new superstar Anthony Davis will fit in with the Mavs.

00:00So, what I'm curious about with Anthony Davis is, I know he's like, hey, play the four,

00:20play the four, play the four.

00:23Does he space the floor?

00:25Nope.

00:26And see, and that's my concern because...

00:28He's going to have to play the five here for this year because of Derek Lively's injury.

00:32And because he's not been shooting the three well for a long time.

00:36So when the Lakers made the run to the title, his ability to shoot three-pointers was looking

00:41really good.

00:42Since then, you've seen a lot of degradation among his three-point shooting abilities.

00:48And so that's why I'm curious about putting him in that at the four.

00:51The Mavs have a short window here.

00:53They have two guys that are in their early thirties who have been number two players

00:57on really good teams.

01:00If they were to successfully win the championship, I'll give it a three-year window.

01:05We don't even know if Kyrie's going to be here, but I'm going to assume yes.

01:08They would change the game of basketball because this is not going to be a three-point shooting

01:12team.

01:13PJ Washington is not a good three-point shooter.

01:15Anthony Davis is a horrible three-point shooter.

01:17Your two centers don't shoot three-pointers at all.

01:19Kyrie is, Spencer Dinwiddie is an inconsistent three-point shooter at best.

01:25So you're hoping that the young guy you got in Max Christy keeps improving.

01:29He's only 21 or 22.

01:33He keeps improving as a three-point shooter.

01:35He was drafted as a three and D guy, but he hasn't proven to be like a consistent over

01:3940% three-point shooter.

01:41So if you win, it will be by driving to the basket, making shots around the basket and

01:47playing unbelievably great defense.

01:50That's your formula now.

01:51It's not about shooting the three.

01:53It's not about being, I don't know, a high volume three-point shooting team.

01:58You're going to be one of the lowest volume three-point shooting teams in the NBA.

02:02So this championship would come by not shooting threes very much and making a lot of twos

02:10and then playing unbelievably great defense.
