00:14so tell me about working with Victoria Monáe.

00:16She's a dream, honestly.

00:17Incredible songwriter, incredible artist,

00:19incredible person, beautiful person.

00:21I think she's, I've always thought

00:22she was the greatest artist ever,

00:23so yeah, we got some stuff.

00:26And I mean, speaking of your adorable plus one today,

00:29you have expressed so many times

00:31how much motherhood has meant to you.

00:32How does it feel to kind of show her in person,

00:35like, being the role model that you are, basically?

00:38It's incredible, honestly.

00:39I mean, what's cooler to me is that,

00:41technically, she worked for this moment.

00:42Like, she sang on the album, she's got the nomination.

00:45She doesn't really have any clue what that means,

00:47but she gets to look back and see that she did it herself.

00:50She wasn't my plus one.

00:51She was, she's here.

00:52You're a Grammy-nominated artist, it's true, it's true.

00:55I'm just happy for her.

00:55She gets to look back and think this is cool one day.

00:58And as a mom, how do you teach her

01:00how to block things out and be positive?

01:02Because obviously, you know,

01:03people always want to talk online about you.

01:04How do you handle that trouble?

01:06I just focus on my art.

01:08I think one thing about it is art will always be there.

01:10It's always the way I get to tell my side and my story

01:12and keep myself present in a way where, like,

01:16people can see who I really am

01:17and people will always have things to say.

01:19People will never actually know me unless they know me,

01:22so the only way that I can get anybody to know me,

01:24even a little bit, is through my music,

01:26and I just try to keep my focus there.

01:27Yeah, and your music is always really vulnerable

01:30and really personal.

01:32With this new album, with the Grammys,

01:34being here with your daughter,

01:35if you could go back and tell your younger self something,

01:38what would it be?

01:39I think just, you're gonna do a lot of cool things one day

01:42and it's gonna be real crazy.

01:44Just stay focused and hold on tight and stay grounded

01:47and trust God above everything.
