Mr. President, welcome.
00:05
Thank you very much.
00:16
Last week, long before the crash, I signed an executive order restoring our highest standards
00:22
for air traffic controllers and other important jobs throughout the country.
00:25
So it was very interesting.
00:27
About a week ago, almost upon entering office, I signed something last week that was an executive
00:38
order very powerful on restoring the highest standards of air traffic controllers and others,
00:43
by the way.
00:45
And my administration will set the highest possible bar for aviation safety.
00:49
We have to have our smartest people.
00:51
It doesn't matter what they look like, how they speak, who they are.
00:55
What matters is intellect, talent.
00:57
The word talent.
00:58
They have to be talented, naturally talented geniuses.
01:02
You can't have regular people doing that job.
01:05
They won't be able to do it.
01:08
But we'll restore faith in American air travel.
01:10
I'll have more to say about that.
01:12
I do want to point out that various articles that appeared prior to my entering office
01:20
and here's one.
01:22
The FAA's diversity push includes focus on hiring people with severe intellectual and
01:28
psychiatric disabilities.
01:32
That is amazing.
01:34
And then it says FAA says people with severe disabilities are most underrepresented segment
01:40
of the workforce and they want them in and they want them.
01:43
They can be air traffic controllers.
01:45
I don't think so.
01:47
This was in January 14th.
01:50
So that was a week before I entered office.
01:53
They put a big push to put diversity into the FAA's program.
02:05
I'm trying to figure out how you can come to the conclusion right now that diversity
02:10
had something to do with this crash.
02:12
Because I have common sense, okay?
02:15
Unfortunately, a lot of people don't.
02:18
We want brilliant people doing this.
02:20
This is a major chess game at the highest level.
02:30
We do not know what led to this crash, but we have some very strong opinions and ideas
02:36
and I think we'll probably state those opinions now.
02:39
Because over the years I've watched as things like this happen and they say, well, we're
02:43
always investigating and then the investigation three years later they announce it.
02:47
We think we have some pretty good ideas.
02:51
But we'll find out how this disaster occurred and we'll ensure that nothing like this ever
02:56
happens again.
02:57
The FAA and the NTSB and the U.S. military will be carrying out a systematic and comprehensive
03:04
investigation.
03:05
Our new Secretary of Transportation, Sean Duffy, his second day on the job when that
03:13
happened, it's a rough one.
03:17
We'll be working tirelessly.
03:18
He's a great gentleman.
03:19
The whole group, these are great people.
03:22
And they are working tirelessly to figure out exactly what happened.
03:27
We will state certain opinions, however.
03:29
I'm also immediately appointing an acting commissioner to the FAA, Christopher Rochelot,
03:36
a 22-year veteran of the agency, highly respected.
03:41
Christopher, thank you very much.
03:43
Appreciate it.
03:44
We must have only the highest standards for those who work in our aviation system.
03:48
I changed the Obama standards from very mediocre at best to extraordinary.
03:55
You remember that.
03:57
Only the highest aptitude, they have to be the highest intellect, and psychologically
04:04
superior people were allowed to qualify for air traffic controllers.
04:10
That was not so prior to getting there.
04:14
When I arrived in 2016, I made that change very early on because I always felt this was
04:19
a job that, and other jobs too, but this was a job that had to be superior intelligence.
04:25
And we didn't really have that, and we had it.
04:30
And then when I left office, and Biden took over, he changed them back to lower than ever
04:38
before.
04:39
I put safety first, Obama, Biden, and the Democrats put policy first.
04:44
And they put politics at a level that nobody's ever seen, because this was the lowest level.
04:53
Their policy was horrible, and their politics was even worse.
05:00
The FAA, which is overseen by Secretary Pete Buttigieg, a real winner, that guy's a real
05:13
winner.
05:14
Do you know how badly everything's run since he's run this Department of Transportation?
05:18
He's a disaster.
05:20
He was a disaster as a mayor.
05:22
He ran his city into the ground, and he's a disaster now.
05:26
He's just got a good line of bullshit.
05:29
The Department of Transportation, his government agency charged with regulating civil aviation.
05:35
Well, he runs it, 45,000 people, and he's run it right into the ground with his diversity.
05:42
So I had to say that it's terrible.
05:46
Then it's a group within the FAA, another story, determined that the workforce was too
05:52
white, that they had concerted efforts to get the administration to change that and
06:00
to change it immediately.
06:02
This was in the Obama administration just prior to my getting there.
06:07
And we took care of African Americans, Hispanic Americans.
06:11
We took care of everybody at levels that nobody's ever seen before.
06:14
It's one of the reasons I won.
06:17
But they actually came out with a directive, too white.
06:20
And we want the people that are competent.
