US President Donald Trump played a key role in the Israel-Hamas ceasefire, applying immense pressure on both sides, Israeli foreign ministry special envoy Fleur Hassan-Nahoum says.

00:00What a ceasefire deal have happened without Trump?

00:03And are these talks likely to continue?

00:06Because we've heard so much about the fragility

00:09of the ceasefire, which is currently in place.

00:12Well, to answer your first question,

00:14I actually don't think that the ceasefire

00:16would have happened without Trump.

00:18I think Trump put incredible pressure on both sides,

00:21but especially on Qatar,

00:23who is a sort of ally of the United States,

00:28and they're the ones holding the keys,

00:30certainly hosting the leaders of Hamas.

00:34And I think Hamas understood that they weren't going

00:36to get much joy from Donald Trump

00:39if they didn't actually agree to this deal,

00:41because even Antony Blinken said over the last year

00:44that every time that we were close to a ceasefire deal,

00:47it was Hamas that became intransigent and not Israel.

00:51And so this was important that Trump came in,

00:54and I think both sides understood that it had to be done,

00:57but especially the Hamas side,

01:00when Qatar pressures them to sign a deal,

01:03and Qatar had incentive to sign a deal

01:06because they knew that Donald Trump

01:08wasn't going to be so patient with them.
