Penang Chief Minister Chow Kuan Yew says his independence in filing the top posts
00:05
has been perceived by certain quarters as disobedience.
00:09
Chow told Kuang Wa Yit Po that his independence had upset certain groups of people
00:14
in the political and economic sectors.
00:17
He did not identify them explicitly,
00:20
but maintained that a good leader must be able to make decisions independently.
00:26
Chow, who is in his second and final term as Chief Minister,
00:29
said former leaders must respect their successors' independence in leading Penang
00:34
and give them the time and space to carry out their vision.
00:38
He also said several elected representatives had become critical of his administration
00:43
after receiving just a few complaints from their constituents.
00:48
The former Penang DAP chief said this reflected poorly on the capabilities
00:52
of these assemblymen to govern and lead the state.
00:55
Pan Yujo, FMT News.
