With Chinese New Year just a few days away, many people are rushing to wrap up their shopping
00:08
for the festival.
00:09
They gather at some of the popular spots in Petaling Jaya, shopping for items ranging
00:14
from decorations and auspicious plants to traditional goodies.
00:18
For some, the last-minute hustle feels exciting, while others find it stressful navigating
00:22
crowds and ticking off their lists.
00:24
It's stressful.
00:25
Honestly, it's stressful.
00:26
So every year, when it comes to New Year, you know, there's a lot of things that, you
00:31
know, as a mother or daughter, you know, you have to take care of so many people and friends.
00:38
But I'm very happy it's once a year I am able to sort of like make my signature cookies
00:44
for them to enjoy and they all like love it.
00:47
So that is the motivation.
00:49
It is fun.
00:50
Chinese New Year must do something like this.
00:53
You buy meat and then you buy abalone and then you buy oranges.
01:00
Younger, we are more crazy.
01:02
Now older, so we just do it like this.
01:05
No, it's in the atmosphere, you know, in the spirit, you know, and it's a wonderful experience
01:09
because it's only once a year.
01:12
So it's very exciting.
01:14
So it's a good occasion to come together to celebrate.
01:18
As for their preparations, most have everything ready, with only the reunion dinner on Tuesday
01:23
left to cook.
01:24
Some might opt to dine out at restaurants.
01:28
Last year I went to a Chinese restaurant.
01:32
I don't like it because when you haven't finished, they come and rush you.
01:36
This year I'm going to Koda Kampung Ning, a Western restaurant.
01:40
They also have restriction, but they give you two hours.
01:43
So ample time.
01:44
That is something I feel is a shortfall.
01:48
This would improve.
01:49
I was told that it's not easy to book tables.
01:53
A lot of restaurants, they do like two sessions or three sessions.
01:56
And then I heard some of them say, if you are in the earlier round, you sit there before
02:01
you can spend some time to finish and then these people will be like all over you waiting
02:05
for their turn.
02:06
So they don't like that kind of experience.
02:09
But it's been many years I don't go out for reunion dinner.
02:12
It's always at home.
02:13
You know, it's more cozy, then it's like more flexible.
02:17
So my friends and family will be coming over during the night on the 28th.
02:24
So we'll be preparing a big dinner.
02:26
So my aunts and my mom will be cooking for everyone.
02:29
I think in the UK and other countries, you don't get to celebrate this tradition like
02:36
in Malaysia.
02:37
I think it's a very fun thing, especially you get to celebrate with families and loved
02:42
ones.
02:43
Malaysians will be welcoming the arrival of the so-called Year of the Wood Snake, which
02:46
is associated with transformation, renewal and spiritual growth, offering opportunities
02:51
for personal development and positive change.
02:54
Happy New Year and more important, good health.
