Keith Urban honoured at 53rd Golden Guitar Awards as Tamworth Country Music Festival wraps up

The Tamworth Country Music Festival is drawing to a close, but not without plenty of glitz and glamour. Superstar Keith Urban was given a major honour at last night’s 53rd Golden Guitar Awards. Our reporter Caitlin Furlong was there.

00:00Well, the 2025 Golden Guitar Awards have been run and won. I'm here with female artist of

00:08the year, two-time Golden Guitar winner, host extraordinaire Max Jackson. Congratulations,

00:11Max, for you tonight.

00:13Oh, thank you so much. It's a very surreal feeling right now because I think I'm still

00:17running the script of hosting in my mind at the same time.

00:21It's been an incredible ride for you. You were the star maker in 2022, now just three

00:25years later, you're here, adding more Golden Guitars to you. Can you believe how quickly

00:32this has all happened?

00:33Honestly, as a kid who just grew up listening to country music, being from a country town

00:38myself, Canamble, and I pinch myself every single time something like this happens. Obviously,

00:44this is the biggest thing to happen in my career to win single of the year and female

00:49artist of the year alongside people who've just inspired me for my entire career. I really

00:55do pinch myself and I don't think this is going to sink in for at least a couple of

00:59days.

01:00And of course, we saw Keith Urban inducted into the role of Renown. Incredible moment.

01:04I know. So I performed right and I walked up and my husband was playing guitar and he

01:08said to me, did you see Keith in the front row? And I said, I'm so glad I did it because

01:12I would have got so nervous. And it was obviously just incredible to have Keith in the room

01:17and obviously such a worthy recipient of that role of Renown.

01:21And Troy Cassidaly taking out five awards. Incredible.

01:23Troy is just the nicest person that you've ever met. And I think, you know, everyone

01:28can feel that from him when he's on stage. And he said up there that he doesn't like

01:31public speaking, but I think that he should start a podcast and just public speak all

01:35the time so that we can all feel that heart. And, you know, his words are always amazing.

01:40So big congrats to Troy Cassidaly.
