Collingwood shooting leaves two teenage boys seriously injured

Two teenage boys are in hospital after being shot on the streets of Collingwood.

00:00Police combing through evidence in the back streets of Collingwood in the aftermath of

00:08a shooting that's left two teens in hospital and neighbours rattled.

00:13Police were called to Veer Street around 12.30 this morning after reports of gunfire to find

00:18a group of 50 or so young people and a 17-year-old who'd been shot.

00:23He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

00:26He's now stable.

00:27A 15-year-old boy who later presented to hospital with a gunshot wound is believed to be linked

00:33to the same incident.

00:34Any incident involving a firearm is concerning but when we have children being shot and potentially

00:40shot by other children, Victoria Police, as I say, will leave no stone unturned.

00:45Uncle Des says one of the injured teens ran into his home.

00:49He said I'm shot.

00:50He come in the house, he ran in.

00:52He would have wasted a bit of blood on me, I'm not sure.

00:55It's really only luck that it's prevented two people from being killed and the fact

01:01that the homicide squad are not involved is, as I say, pure luck.

01:05Police say there'd been a brawl in the vicinity of this public housing estate close by on

01:10Hoddle Street just an hour before the violence spilled onto the streets.

01:15Police say when they arrived the large group of young people quickly dispersed.

01:19They're now looking to speak to those people to help them piece together what happened.

01:24One avenue of inquiry we will keep open and is whether it's gang related, whether there's

01:30any recent conflicts that may have occurred.

01:33Police are still searching for a motive for what they believe was a targeted attack.
