00:00The first barangay behavioral facility in the country expanded its service to community development.

00:07Joseph Ann Pista of the Philippine Information Agency, Central Visayas, has the details of the country's latest developments.

00:15In the aftermath of the National Mental Health Week, the first and currently only barangay behavioral facility in the country

00:23urged the public to be more aware and open about the topic of mental health.

00:28According to Program Director Pocholo de los Santos of the Barangay Behavioral Health Unit of Barangay Lahog, Cebu City,

00:34mental health is not only about diseases or disorders.

00:38Even the simplest decision as to what you're going to wear today is about mental health.

00:45What you're going to take up as a course, who you are going to marry, right?

00:50Things like this decision-making, that's mental health.

00:53Mental health disorders are minor compared to health problems.

00:59Within almost six years of the service, the BBHU helped 280 patients

01:06and held 4,085 seminars in various public and private institutions.

01:14De los Santos added that the continued stigma on mental health is still not eliminated.

01:19Aside from the current services, programs for community development were also facilitated.

01:26Because of this and the recommendation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government,

01:30the BBHU was counted among the finalists of the Galing Pook Awards 2024.
