Wolverhampton pub adopts dog after he survived a car accident where his owner passed away

Rex ran into The Leaping Wolf after surviving a car accident, and when the pub manager Dan took him to the vet he was informed that Rex's owner did not make it, so Dan adopted him.

00:00Hi, I'm Dan. I'm one of the managers here at the Leaping Wolf in Wolverhampton on Waterloo Road.

00:06This story is about this dog, Rex.

00:10It was last year's Liverpool match.

00:13It was rammed inside the outside bar and everyone said there was a dog running around

00:19and we didn't know it belonged to.

00:21So I took it to the vet the next day.

00:24They couldn't tell me too much for data protection

00:27but it turned out that the owner's deceased so we decided to adopt him.

00:33All the customers look after him.

00:36They buy him presents as you've seen already.

00:39He's spoilt.

00:41If we have takeaway, he has takeaway.

00:43If we have a roast dinner, he has a roast dinner.

00:46He's the most spoilt dog in the world.

00:48You can see just as you've been here for the last 20 minutes how much people have spoilt him.

00:55He's a really well-behaved dog.

00:59I think he needs a girlfriend.

01:14There's customers who purposely literally go over to Asda before they come to the pub

01:19and buy him some dog treats to come because he always runs up to them for a treat.

01:24He's well looked after.

01:26He sits there and he waits for people to come through the door.

01:31If it's someone who is undesirable, it's like he knows.

01:38He barks at them.

01:41You haven't heard him bark because there's no undesirables

01:44but sometimes in this area you get undesirables.

01:48Somehow he knows and he barks at them and you have to calm him down.

01:53We first rescued him.

01:57He wasn't that good because we had to look after him.

02:00He was running around.

02:01Whereas you can see now he just likes to sit down and chill.

02:06He's found his home basically.

02:09It took a bit of training obviously because having a pub dog is a hard game.

02:16Having a dog is a hard game as well.

02:18But having a dog in a pub, you have to train them properly.

02:22He's well trained as you can see.
