Sledders come out in droves after historic storm sweeps Houston

Residents took to the hills to sled on Jan. 21 after an historic winter storm dumped inches of snow on the Texas city.

00:00I am here in Houston, Texas, where we just experienced a once-in-a-lifetime

00:04historic winter storm where it snowed for many hours this morning, dumping four

00:10inches of snow or so here in the Houston metro area. The snow has stopped and now

00:15as you can see, looks like all of Houston has arrived here at Herman Park on

00:21Miller Hill. Dozens if not hundreds of sledders here litter this park coming

00:29down the hill. Many of these people probably their first time ever sledding

00:32and experiencing snow. It is a rare historic winter storm here in the

00:38Houston, Texas area and now the storm has moved off to the east. We should have

00:43some blue sky coming up here this afternoon on the backside of the storm

00:46but the snow has continued to move to the east into Louisiana, Mississippi,

00:51Alabama, and the Florida Panhandle, all experiencing snow this afternoon as the

00:56snow storm, this winter storm, this historic storm along the Gulf Coast of

01:01the United States continues to make its way off to the east. Now we do still have

01:05the snow here and the snow will start to melt a little bit today if that sun does

01:09come out but then the temperatures drop back below freezing tonight and that's

01:13going to cause problems here in the Houston area. Schools are closed today,

01:16airports are closed today, many businesses are closed today. The hope is

01:20that they'll start to open up tomorrow but we'll have to see how much of that

01:23snow can melt off, how icy conditions get, and it may take a couple of days

01:28before that warm weather comes in enough to melt all this snow up here but in the

01:33meantime the residents of Houston are enjoying this historic possibly once-in-a-

01:39lifetime winter storm event here in southeastern Texas. For AccuWeather, I'm
