Senate Confirms First Trump Cabinet Official With Marco Rubio Approved as Secretary of State

Vice President JD Vance has sworn in Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, the first of Trump’s Cabinet nominees to take the job.

00:02I, Marco Rubio, do solemnly swear

00:07that I will support and defend

00:10the Constitution of the United States

00:14against all enemies, foreign and domestic,

00:18that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same,

00:23that I take this obligation freely

00:27without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion,

00:33and that I will well and faithfully discharge

00:37the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.

00:43Congratulations, Mr. Secretary.

00:48Obviously, it's an honor to be with the Vice President,

00:50who I think is going to be phenomenal.

00:52He's someone I knew and admired and actually relied on

00:55for policy ideas before he was even elected to the Senate,

00:58and now will do an extraordinary job for the President.

01:01I can't think of a better voice for the world

01:04and for the President's policies.

01:06As far as the task ahead,

01:09President Trump was elected to keep promises,

01:12and he's going to keep those promises.

01:14And his primary promise when it comes to foreign policy

01:16is that the priority of the United States Department of State

01:19will be the United States.

01:21It will be furthering the national interest of this country.

01:24And he's given us a very clear mandate.

01:26President Trump's made it very clear.

01:28Everything we do, and this is true in government,

01:30but especially at the Department of State,

01:32everything we do must be justified

01:34by the answer to one of three questions.

01:36Does it make us stronger? Does it make us safer?

01:38And does it make us more prosperous?

01:40If it doesn't do one of those three things, we will not do it.

01:43And so that is the goal, and that is the task,

01:46and that is the promise that he was elected to keep,

01:48and that is the promise he will keep, and we will help him keep.

01:51It's a transformational moment.
