Nvidia's Jensen Huang Touts Taiwan's Manufacturing Prowess

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has met with TSMC CEO C.C. Wei and other local suppliers during his trip to Taiwan, where he also attended Nvidia's year-end party and touted Taiwan's manufacturing prowess.

00:07The tech titan attended two year-end parties in Taipei, taking the stage in his signature

00:13leather jacket at electronics manufacturer Wistron's event before attending NVIDIA's

00:19own party.

00:22Huang has been visiting various Taiwanese suppliers during his trip, which included

00:27a lunch with TSMC CEO Cici Wei.

00:31Amid booming demand for AI, the two giants are collaborating on new cutting-edge semiconductors

00:38and packaging technology that can better assemble complex chips.

00:42The TSMC team is super busy and this is one of the fastest production ramps of any complex

00:49technology ever.

00:50And so mostly I just wanted to thank him for the hard work and prepare ourselves for next

00:55year because next year is going to be a really big year.

01:00Earlier this month, Huang unveiled a slew of new tech by NVIDIA, including a GPU that's

01:07up to twice as powerful as its previous model, and a personal AI supercomputer priced at

01:13US$3,000.

01:16Huang thanked partners in Taiwan for their role in the tech, saying as many as 45 Taiwanese

01:22firms run 24 hours a day to build its supercomputers, including electronics firm Wistron.

01:37But earlier this week, outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden announced new export controls on

01:43those same AI chips to protect U.S. tech dominance against competitors including China.

01:50It's a move that could cut into NVIDIA's global business, with a market value exceeding

01:55US$3 trillion.

01:58In a statement, the California-based firm called the plans misguided.

02:03In Taiwan, Huang stopped short of commenting on Biden's decision.

02:07Huang also said little about talks with the incoming Trump administration, focusing instead

02:13on his current Asia trip.

02:22Huang is expected to travel on to NVIDIA's New Year's party in Beijing, a source close

02:27to the firm told Reuters.

02:35squarely in the crosshairs of a U.S.-China tech war that will soon have a new leader

02:41at the helm.
