The Athletic's Rob Rossi on Evgeni Malkin home burglary

The Penguins star's home was hit over the weekend.

00:00Yeah, it seems like we're with Rob Rossi of The Athletic on the Big K Morning Show.

00:06What they've pieced together from these other high-profile thefts from Patrick Mahomes,

00:12quarterback for the Chiefs, Travis Kelsey, obviously his favorite tight end, and others

00:17in the NBA, is there are groups from South America, apparently, who use publicly available

00:25information and social media to identify athletes' habits.

00:28They track their comings and goings, according to this FBI report, and the groups use technology

00:33allowing them somehow to bypass alarm systems, block wireless internet connections, and disable

00:40devices, cover security cameras, hide their identities.

00:44They've been very successful at this, and so far, we don't know of anyone who's been

00:47arrested in any of these cases.

00:50That's true, and so I have to be clear.

00:52I don't know yet if there's a link, but certainly signs point to this fitting in with the same

01:03profile of the type of robberies we've seen with the other high-profile athletes.

01:08I know that the Penguins, even since the incident, have been working with their team security

01:16to try to figure out how they can keep their athletes, their players, in a better position,

01:21but yeah, it's jarring, because look, I've been to the home of Evgeny Malkin, and these

01:29are not just security, and these aren't your average, like I have, like a security system.

01:38These are pretty high-intensity security systems that these athletes have, for obvious reasons, right?
