A Liverpool institution is celebrating its 100th birthday. Now even, if you've never ventured inside I'm sure you're aware of Coopers. There's always someone blasting out a rendition of one classic or another, warbling note-perfect or far from it, to the aapplause of those watching.

00:00In many ways, little has changed over the years in Coopers. The red daubed pub tucked

00:05away in the city centre, which is celebrating its centenary in 2025.

00:09It'll still be here when I'm dead and gone, you know, another 100 years. But the staff,

00:15and I think that's what makes it the way we are, and we are with the customers. We don't

00:23just serve them, we interact. We're a community, and there's not many of us left.

00:29It was Ada Cooper who started the story when she took over, not Coopers, but what was then

00:33known as the Safton a whole century ago. Patrons swiftly adopted Ada's surname rather than

00:39the official title for the beloved watering hole, an affectionate scout's way of showing

00:43their love for Ada.

00:45This is the heart and soul of Liverpool, one of the heart and souls of Liverpool, this

00:51place. Customers are great. It is the friendliest pub that I've ever worked in. We always call

01:02it the little pub with a big heart.

01:05Recently, Jonathan Yates, co-owner of the Booking West Arby's, taken over Coopers to

01:09help improve some aspects without changing the venue's heart and soul.

01:13It's an institution, isn't it? It is a local institution. What's it like to be part of

01:16it? It's fun. You never get the two days the same after each other.

01:23We want them to feel like you're at home. You can come in in a tuxedo and an evening

01:29gown, you can come in and wear clothes, you'll get the same treatment. We don't care if you've

01:32got a fiver in your puffer or a million pounds, that's not what we're here for.

01:37Right to the present day, much of Coopers remains the same, especially the atmosphere.

01:41The bar welcomes all at any hour, basked with warm welcomes, karaoke and live music.

01:47We're just one chapter in the story of this pub. Ada had her chapter 100 years ago and

01:52there's been various chapters that have followed since and now's our chapter and you hope that

01:56in the future there'll be a couple more chapters to come.
