00:00The Department of Health advises the public to practice good hygiene like covering coughs,

00:05staying home when sick, and washing hands often as the cooler Amihan season continues.

00:11This season can increase respiratory problems like allergies and infections.

00:16The DOH reports lower influenza-like illness or ILI as of December 31, 2024, a 17 percent

00:25decrease from the previous year.

00:28Common viruses causing ILI include rhinovirus, enterovirus, and influenza A. The DOH also

00:36notes an increase in human metapneumovirus or HMPV cases worldwide, but HMPV symptoms

00:46are usually mild.

00:47Severe cases are rare but may affect infants, the elderly, and people with weak immune systems

00:55or lung conditions.

00:56The DOH encourages people, especially those at high risk, to wash hands frequently, avoid

01:03crowded places, and seek medical care for severe symptoms.

01:07Secretary Teodoro Herboza emphasized the importance of boosting immunity through proper food,

01:13exercise, and discipline.

01:15Meanwhile, face masks remain optional.
