00:00The Environment Department has found raw sewage sludge being dumped at a palm oil plantation in Bukit Selambau following public complaints.
00:10Kedah Director Sharifah Zakia Syed Sahab said the investigation revealed activities related to the disposal of raw sewage sludge produced during the dislodging of sewage treatment systems.
00:23The sludge disposal was carried out at an oil palm plantation located in Kampung Sungai Ana Ikan, Bukit Telok Kiri, Kuala Muda, Kedah.
00:33It is learned that the disposal site did not have written permission from the Director General of Environmental Quality.
00:40Sharifah said the activity was conducted by a contractor holding a permit from the National Water Services Commission to provide sewage services in Kedah.
00:50The case is being investigated under Regulation 15 of the Environmental Quality Sewage Regulations 2009.
00:58Sharifah also said the department will also forward the findings of the investigation to other relevant authorities for further action against the contractors involved under their respective laws.
