00:00We are focusing on a world of peace, harmony and collaboration, so collaboration in all

00:07directions, in all senses.

00:09So we are expecting a lot and I'm sure India also will benefit a lot from its diaspora,

00:16from Malaysia, from Sri Lanka, from different nooks and corners of the world and also of

00:21course from Mauritius, the small brother we are here.

00:26Regarding the portfolio, how do you look at the relationship between India and Mauritius

00:34at present and where do you want the relationship to be?

00:38As you know, we are also in Mauritius, we are expecting a lot because we've got an extensive

00:50economic zone for our sea.

00:53We rely a lot on India and many other countries to have a sort of close monitoring of our

01:01sea and also as a Deputy Foreign Minister, we are trying to explore other avenues of

01:10collaboration with India, especially in fields like AI, artificial intelligence and also

01:17in tourism.

01:19You know, Mauritius is a prime destination for tourists and my own vision of the tourist

01:26sector is for when Europeans, people from the West are coming, why not try to blend

01:33Mauritius and India?

01:35The tourists from different parts of the world, especially from the West, they can come here

01:41first for the first four or five days for the cultural aspects of India and then they

01:47come to Mauritius for the lovely beaches and lovely mountains and rivers, what we have

01:53in Mauritius.

01:55But also what we are relying a lot for India, we are going to ask for the Indian government

02:03to help us.

02:05We want to have more sort of sustainable development and already in a way when you look at our

02:13tourist industry, the way we have been doing all these hotels, we have been focusing on

02:19greening the industry and with the help of India, with its technology, modern technology,

02:25we are expecting more to green it even more.

02:29And also in the field of education, higher education, we are going to make new requests

02:36to India and also to consolidate our transport sector.

02:41And already, as you know, India has been making grants to Mauritius for electrical buses,

02:48for instance, and at the same time they have given us interesting lines of credit.

02:56So it's a win-win situation for Mauritius and also India.

03:01And as you know, Mauritius is a gateway to Africa.

03:04Mauritius is very small. It's a dot in the Indian Ocean, as you know.

03:08But India can use Mauritius positively, in a positive sense, because we've got two important

03:15trade agreements with Africa, what is known as SADC and COMESA.

03:20And I'm sure that India can use these two trade agreements to penetrate Africa,

03:27the continent of Africa.

03:29As you know, Mauritius, geographically and also culturally, we are part of Africa.

03:34And India forms part also of the Indian Ocean Rim.

03:37And the Indian Ocean Rim has a lot of prospects.

03:43And I'm sure we have to, and in fact I think the Secretary General this time,

03:48after somebody from Thailand, we are going to have an Indian.

03:51So we have to collaborate more.

03:53And this is something which has been, for multiple reasons, has been neglected

04:00to a certain extent, I would say.

04:02So we have to explore all these avenues.

04:04And all our Indian brothers, sisters in business, they are welcome to Mauritius to explore.

04:10Because as you know, Africa is a continent of the future.

04:14In many parts of the world, it's a bit saturated.

04:17Whereas Africa is the continent of tomorrow, of today and tomorrow, I would say.

04:22So we will welcome all our businessmen from India to come to Mauritius,

04:29use Mauritius as a hub, as a gateway to penetrate the African market.

04:34And because Mauritius, one of our great qualities is stability,

04:40political stability and security.

04:43I mean, in relative terms, Mauritius is a very safe haven,

04:46not only for tourists but also for business people.

04:50So we are very enthusiastic.

04:52And as you know, in Mauritius, we've got a new government with a new prime minister

04:57who was a prime minister before.
