00:00People in the know have been speaking about this for a very long time. Even we have been

00:12speaking to the Indian audience and also international audience about China's plan to build a mega

00:18dam that will produce more than three times the hydroelectricity than the Three Gorges

00:24Dam, which is the biggest in the world. And we are just talking about a major earthquake

00:32that happened in southern Tibet this morning. And this is one of the six major earthquakes

00:38that happened over the last one century. And the Tibetan Plateau was formed because of

00:44the tectonic shift between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. And the whole region

00:50is prone to earthquakes. If something happens to that size of a dam, where you will have

00:55to store so much water, which will not only impact flora and fauna that are unique to

01:00the Tibetan Plateau in that region, but it will also have serious, tragic consequences

01:07if something happens to that size of a dam in the downstream areas like Arunachal Pradesh

01:14in Assam. Even when there is no flood, when there is too much rain water also, the whole

01:21area is flooded. Now if something happens to that kind of a storage of water in the

01:26upper reaches of Brahmaputra inside Tibet, then whole of Assam could be washed away and

01:34whole of Bangladesh could be washed away. So it's high time that countries express their

01:40concerns about future disasters that can be avoided now by taking into consideration

01:47the interests of the downstream countries.

01:49Do you think China can use this dam in any way in either way?

01:55Of course, people also talk about natural weapons. So if they want to do something against

02:01India or Bangladesh for that matter, they can let loose water from that area and then

02:07you can see the impact or the consequences of such an action downstream. So it could

02:15be used as a natural weapon any time.

02:18It could be a water bomb.

02:20That is why a natural weapon is in the form of a water bomb, yes.
