China and Republic of Congo establishing deeper ties

China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi has held talks with his counterpart in the Republic of Congo.  After initiating ties in 1964, both countries are looking to deepen cooperation, as our correspondent Chris Ocmaringa reports from Brazzaville.    #China #Congo

00:00Well, Mr. Wang Yi has just concluded a meeting with his Congolese counterpart Jean-Claude

00:05Gakoso, and they discussed the strengthening of the cooperation, the partnership between

00:11the two countries.

00:13The Republic of Congo and China have had a long history of trade relations that dates

00:17back to the 1960s, and they are very determined to deepen that relation in a number of other

00:23areas.

00:24For many years now, the Republic of Congo has been exporting crude oil, wood, zinc,

00:31and refined copper to China.

00:33And China, on the other hand, has been exporting electronic gadgets, ceramic tiles, clothing,

00:42and footwear in very large quantities to the Republic of Congo.

00:45So they want to increase this trade between the two countries in other areas like agriculture,

00:52health care, and military and in the security sector.

00:56China is supposed to give military assistance to the Republic of Congo so that they can

01:00develop a stronger army to defend its country from any external aggression.

01:04So that is what has just happened, and he's going to have another meeting with the President

01:09of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sasson-Gueso, where they will hold a press conference and

01:13issue a communique about what they are going to do.

01:16What we have heard is that this is a follow-up meeting on the implementation of issues that

01:22were agreed upon by African leaders and President Xi Jinping at last year's forum on China-Africa

01:30cooperation in Beijing.

01:32And so they are going to ensure that they implement a number of issues, trade relations,

01:37to increase business for both countries and for the mutual benefit of their people.
