Big changes could be on the way for bus services across the West Midlands. A public consultation has been launched, asking for views on replacing the current system with a franchised network. Details on how this could impact fares, routes, and timetables are coming up.

00:05Combined Authority launching a public consultation to gather feedback on a proposed franchising

00:11model. Under the plan, the authority would take control of fares, routes and timetables,

00:17awarding contracts to private operators to deliver the services. Last year, buses accounted

00:23for over 240 million journeys across the West Midlands and contributed £4.4 billion to

00:29the local economy. However, the current system has been criticised for being unreliable and

00:35not meeting the needs of all passengers. The franchising model could be in place by 2027

00:41if approved. The consultation, which runs until the 30th of March, invites feedback

00:46from individuals, businesses and organisations on the proposed changes. The findings will

00:52be reviewed by the Mayor and regional leaders before a final decision is made in the spring.
