Hello, there. Welcome to your latest MetOvis forecast. It remains very unsettled through
00:06
tonight into Sunday across the U.K. as low pressure dominates this area, bumping into
00:11
cold air, which is in place across the U.K., turning to snow, particularly across parts
00:15
of Wales, Northern England, and then pulls away and allows colder air to sink back south
00:19
again with wintry showers as we head into Monday. So, an unsettled picture as we head
00:25
through a Saturday evening. MetOvis warnings out for much of the country. Snow and ice
00:30
across parts of Wales, the Midlands, East Anglia, up into Northern England, particularly
00:33
Northern England could be disruptive as we head through this evening and overnight. Expect
00:38
some travel disruption as well as the risk of power outages as well, especially as we
00:43
head into Sunday morning. Amber warnings in force here. Up to 40 centimetres of snow possible
00:49
across some higher ground. Even to lower levels, we could see 5 to 10 centimetres locally a
00:54
bit more, but there will be some areas that will see rain and rain is the main feature
01:00
as we head into the early hours across parts of Wales and southern parts of England. Any
01:04
snow that fell during the day here will begin to melt as well. We could see the risk of
01:09
some flooding. Wintry mix across Northern Ireland and southern Scotland, while as much
01:14
of central northern parts of Scotland, cold and icy here. Some wintry showers in the far
01:19
north. Temperatures falling below freezing. Minus 6 to minus 8 across the glen of Scotland
01:24
once more for many. Temperatures around freezing. Just something a little less cold across the
01:30
far south and southwest. So, a very unsettled start to Sunday. Disruptive snow as I mentioned
01:36
across southern Scotland, northern England in particular. This continues through the
01:40
day. So, do stay tuned to the MetOvis warnings and forecast as the situation adapts and changes
01:47
throughout. Further rain, which will be heavy across Wales, but a little drier across parts
01:52
of the Midlands, central southern England with some showers here. Quite brisk winds
01:58
developing. A mixture of rain, sleet and snow for parts of Northern Ireland initially, but
02:03
trying to become a bit drier across the west and also that reflected across the Highlands
02:09
as well with some sunny spells, wintry showers, but further snow across the Moray Firth down
02:13
eastern and southern parts of Scotland as well. Icy stretches too. And temperatures
02:19
are a large contrast across the UK to the south of this weather front. Temperatures
02:23
reaching double figures, 12 to 13 Celsius. Under the snow and rain, 3 or 4 degrees at
02:29
best. Most places though, struggling to get much above freezing and temperatures in the
02:33
glens of Scotland remaining below freezing for much of the day. As we head into the evening
02:39
time on Sunday, this weather system slowly starts to push its way eastwards. Further
02:43
snow for a time across northern England, but then turning more showery as we head into
02:47
the early hours. This rain band pushes into south-east England, the back edge over the
02:51
higher ground. We could see some sleet and snow returning here. Elsewhere, clear spells
02:57
developing, some wintry showers in that northerly flow, so expect further icy stretches and
03:02
temperatures. Again, Townsend City is close to freezing and the countryside, Northern
03:07
Ireland, Scotland below freezing. Some icy stretches to start Monday morning. A wet start
03:12
across the south-east, a risk of some hill snow for a time before this system pulls away.
03:17
Further wintry showers then pulling their way southwards through the day on Monday.
03:22
Some sunny spells in between. Any mild air that held on across southern counties of England
03:27
and Wales through the weekend then pulls away and it's a much colder feeling day here. Temperatures
03:32
5 to 8 degrees at best. Further north, 3 or 4 degrees in any bright or sunny spells. Again,
03:38
a few places staying below freezing all day and that strong northerly breeze continuing.
03:44
So it is worth staying up to date with the Met Office forecast through the rest of the
03:49
weekend into the beginning of next week. Met Office warnings in place for many areas and
03:53
they'll continually be updated as the situation changes. See you again soon.
