Man charged over alleged sexual assault of a Virgin Airlines crew member in Fiji

Police in Fiji have charged a man over the alleged sexual assault and rape of a Virgin Australia crew member. The crew were in the tourist town of Nadi celebrating the new year.

00:12The 21-year-old Melbourne woman was separated from her colleagues after a night out in Matinta,

00:18a popular local entertainment district, when the alleged attack occurred.

00:24Police say the suspect will appear in the magistrate's court on Monday to answer to

00:28the two charges.

00:29Given the seriousness of the case, the charge is likely to be referred to the High Court

00:34in Lotoka, where the suspect faces more severe penalties if he is convicted.

00:40He is facing up to 20 years in jail.

00:43In a separate incident, another crew member, a man, was allegedly robbed and sustained

00:48facial injuries the same night.

00:50Investigations into that theft are ongoing, and it is understood that all Virgin Australia

00:56crew members have now returned to Australia.
