Victoria police investigate after 3-year-old boy dies in a caravan blaze in Boort

The family of a three-year-old boy killed in a caravan fire in central Victoria say they're devastated. A blaze tore through the caravan parked at a property in Boort, in north-central Victoria, yesterday afternoon.

00:20Police are still investigating the cause of the fire, but we understand the boy was asleep

00:26The family has issued a statement saying they are totally devastated and wrapping their

00:32They also asked that people respect their privacy.

00:35The CEO of the local hospital and friend of the family Donna Doyle says the community

00:39is supporting the family at this time.

01:03Bort is 255km from Melbourne and is typically a small country town, but in summer it's a

01:09popular holiday destination with people coming here to water ski and swim in the lake.

01:15Neighbours have said this morning they saw a bit of smoke and then a big fire, but didn't

01:19expect the tragedy that had unfolded.

01:21Again, police don't yet know the cause of the fire, but the death is a tragic event

01:25for this community that is usually thriving at this time of the year.
